About The Dark Side

The Dark Side, conceived by Doug Rogers (EastWest) and David Fridmann (known for his work with MGMT, The Flaming Lips, and more), is a groundbreaking 40 Gigabyte collection of virtual instruments. It features unconventional and edgy sounds—some dark and eerie, others intentionally mangled or distorted. This collection is a source of inspiration for composers and artists seeking something unique, especially in film, TV, and game music production.

MIPA Award Winner: In 2011, Producer Doug Rogers received the MIPA Award for The Dark Side at the Frankfurt Musikmesse, marking his second MIPA win in four years. To create this innovative collection, Rogers collaborated with Grammy Award-Winning record producer David Fridmann, known for his boundary-pushing work with numerous acclaimed artists.

The Dark Side Concept: The idea stemmed from Rogers' desire to fill a gap in the market for tougher, more aggressive sounds. Collaborating with Fridmann, they transformed traditional instruments into highly processed drums, percussion, basses, guitars, keyboards, strings, and FX. Using a "no rules" approach, they unleashed mass aural destruction, resulting in instruments designed to stand out in a mix or disturb the senses.

Blip Blop

"The instruments are so well recorded that it is not necessary to add any effects on them. You will hear for yourself how great The Dark Side sounds. It's quite easy to get carried away to the point where you're only using it in your compositions."

Sound on Sound

"A thoroughly enjoyable collection of heavily processed instruments from a master of distortion."

Music Radar

"With a nicely designed interface and clear controls, it's incredibly easy to get to grips with. Skipping through the instrument presets, it's immediately apparent that Dark Side lives up to its name, offering dozens of nasty, heavily processed and distorted drums, bass, guitars, keys, strings, choirs and FX."
