The Sound Designers Collective
Create. Collaborate. Release.
The Sound Designers Collective is a new initiative from Kompose Audio, created to give independent sound designers and developers the opportunity to create and release their own libraries for Soundbox and Raizes, while reaching our growing community of composers, producers and musicians around the world.
The idea behind it is very simple.
We know how much time, creativity and care goes into creating a great sound library. We also know that creating the sounds is only one part of the process. There is artwork, product pages, marketing, customer support, payments, downloads and everything else that comes with actually bringing a library to market.
The Sound Designers Collective has been created to make that journey easier.
You focus on creating something inspiring, and we help you turn those ideas and sounds into a finished Soundbox or Raizes library that can be released through Kompose Audio.

How Does It Work?
Every collaborator brings their own ideas, sounds and creative identity to the project. Our role is to provide the platform, support and experience needed to help bring that project to life and ultimately release it through Kompose Audio.
We take care of areas such as the Kompose Audio product page, payment processing, digital delivery and customer support, as well as promoting releases through our existing marketing channels and audience.
We can also provide help and guidance throughout the development process whenever it is needed.
Quality is extremely important to us, so every library developed through The Sound Designers Collective is carefully reviewed and tested throughout the process. This is not about changing your creative vision. It is about working together to make sure the finished library is as strong, polished and reliable as it can be.
If something needs improving, we will work with you, offer feedback and help you move the project forward.
A Flexible Approach to Collaboration
Every sound designer is different, and we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.
Some collaborators may already have plenty of experience developing libraries and simply need a platform through which to release and sell their work. Others may have experience in sound design but appreciate some guidance and feedback during development, while someone creating their first Soundbox or Raizes library may want us to work much more closely with them throughout the entire process.
That's why the way we work together is tailored to the individual collaborator and their level of experience.
If you're an experienced developer, you can work independently and bring your library to us ready for review, testing and release. If you need more support, we can work alongside you throughout development, providing guidance, feedback and practical help wherever it's needed.
And if you've never created a Soundbox or Raizes library before, that's absolutely fine too. If you have great sounds, an interesting idea and the enthusiasm to learn, we can help you understand the process and work with you to turn those ideas into a finished library.
When you contact us, we'll talk about your experience, what you'd like to create and how much support you might need. From there, we can recommend the most appropriate way for us to work together and provide full details of the collaboration, including revenue share and payments.
What Are We Looking For?
More than anything, we are looking for people who genuinely enjoy creating interesting and inspiring sounds.
You might already have years of experience in sound design, or you might simply have access to an unusual instrument, synthesizer, collection of recordings or an idea that you think could become something special.
We love libraries that have their own identity and bring something different to the table.
That does not mean every release needs to be enormous. A smaller, carefully crafted collection built around a great idea can be every bit as inspiring as a much larger library.
We are happy to hear from experienced sound designers and developers as well as complete beginners with a great idea and the enthusiasm to learn.
You do not need to have everything figured out before contacting us.
Creating Your Own Original Sounds
One of the most important parts of creating a Sound Designers Collective release is making sure the sounds you use are genuinely yours to work with.
For Soundbox and Raizes libraries, collaborators must create and own the original source recordings used to build their products. In simple terms, this means recording your own sounds rather than sampling sounds or recordings created by somebody else.
Hardware synthesizers are a great example. You can record your own hardware synths and use those recordings as the starting point for your library. Wherever possible, we encourage you to create your own patches and presets too - not only does this help keep everything original, it also gives your finished library much more of your own creative personality.
The same applies to acoustic instruments, unusual instruments, field recordings, found sounds and other original audio that you record yourself. There are countless possibilities, and part of the fun is discovering interesting sources and transforming them into something completely new.
We do ask collaborators not to sample software synthesizers, software samplers or virtual instrument plug-ins for use as source material. These products can contain samples, recordings and other intellectual property belonging to another developer or company, and their licence terms may not allow those sounds to be sampled and redistributed as part of another commercial library.
The simplest approach is to start with sounds that you have recorded yourself from an original source and that you have the necessary rights to use commercially.
If you're ever unsure whether a particular sound source is suitable, just ask us before you start recording. We're always happy to discuss it with you and help make sure everything is on the right track from the beginning.
Ultimately, these guidelines aren't there to restrict creativity - they're there to protect everyone involved and to respect the work of other sound designers and developers within our industry.
Your Sounds. Your Creative Identity.
The Sound Designers Collective is about celebrating the people behind the sounds.
Your creativity, ideas and identity are an important part of every release.
While Kompose Audio provides the platform, support and infrastructure, we want customers to know who created the sounds they are using and to be able to discover more of your work.
Our aim is to build long-term relationships with talented creators and provide a place where those creators can develop their own collection of Soundbox and Raizes libraries alongside Kompose Audio.
Your Own Portfolio Page
Every Sound Designers Collective collaborator will have their own dedicated portfolio page on the Kompose Audio website.
This gives customers a place to discover more about you, your approach to sound design and all of the libraries you have created as part of the Collective.
As you release more products, your portfolio can grow with you, giving you your own space within Kompose Audio to showcase your work and creative identity.
Track Your Sales
You will also be given access to your own secure collaborator area.
From here, you can track your product sales and see details of both previous and upcoming payouts.
Transparency is very important to us, and we want you to be able to see how your products are performing without having to wait for periodic sales reports or ask us for updates.
Everything is there for you to see whenever you need it.
Quality, Testing & Support
We hold very high standards across the Kompose Audio catalogue, and libraries released through The Sound Designers Collective are no different.
Every submitted library will be thoroughly reviewed and tested before it can be released.
This may include checking the samples, presets, functionality, compatibility, artwork, documentation and overall presentation of the library.
We will also review the product throughout its development where appropriate, rather than simply waiting until the very end.
If we feel something needs improving, we will explain why and work with you to get it right. Our aim is to support you throughout the process and help you create the strongest library possible while retaining your own creative identity.
Submission of a library does not automatically guarantee that it will be released. Kompose Audio retains final approval over all products released through The Sound Designers Collective so that we can maintain the standards our customers have come to expect.
Pricing, Sales & Promotions
We want every Sound Designers Collective release to have a price that feels right for both the product and the people buying it.
We'll work together with you to discuss and agree on an appropriate initial selling price, taking into account the size and scope of the library, its content and where it sits within the wider Kompose Audio catalogue.
As the publisher and retailer, Kompose Audio manages the ongoing pricing and promotion of products released through The Sound Designers Collective. From time to time, this may include adjusting the selling price or including a product in a promotion, special offer, bundle or other marketing campaign.
Full details about revenue share, payments, pricing and promotions will be clearly explained before you decide to proceed and will also be set out in the Sound Designers Collective Collaborator Agreement.
The Sound Designers Collective Collaborator Agreement
Before any product can be released, we will provide you with our Sound Designers Collective Collaborator Agreement.
This sets out the full terms of the collaboration, including areas such as ownership, licensing, royalties, payments, responsibilities and how your libraries are sold through Kompose Audio.
It is important that you read the agreement thoroughly and make sure you are happy with everything before signing it.
The agreement must be signed before your product can be added to the Kompose Audio website or made available for sale.
If there is anything you are unsure about, we would always encourage you to ask us before signing.
