James Powley

James is a London-based film composer and sound designer whose work blends expressive piano writing, orchestral textures, and modern synthesis.

Originally trained with a classical background, he has spent the last few years exploring the world of hardware synthesizers, combining cinematic orchestration with evolving electronic sound design to create distinctive and inspiring sonic palettes.

His music has been featured in film and television projects screened at festivals across the UK and internationally throughout Europe, South America, India, and beyond. Most recently, his score for Relay, directed by Ranjit Singh Shubh, was praised at the 2026 UK Asian Film Festival at BFI Southbank for the emotional depth it brought to the film, enhancing its storytelling and leaving a lasting impact on audiences.

Alongside composing, James loves creating new sound worlds that bring together his passion for orchestral writing and synthesis. He enjoys exploring new territory, building tools that encourage creativity and experimentation. Whether collaborating with filmmakers, musicians, or other artists, he's always excited by the opportunity to experiment and create something that feels both fresh and exciting.
